iPhone 14 sells well, Samsung also benefits

Samsung Display raised the target of OLED panels for iPhone 14 from 130 million to 149 million units due to the sudden increase in demand from Apple.

The South Korean site The Elec, citing a source, said that Samsung Display is expected to receive more explosive orders of OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro series. The main reason comes from the fact that the company is the largest partner to supply LTPO OLED screen panels on iPhones.

“Samsung Display ordered additional equipment from AP Systems, HB Solution and Philoptics late last month. They will ship the device to Samsung’s factory in Vietnam, where the display panels are manufactured into modules before being shipped to partners,” the source of The Elec said.

iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a big change with the latest screen using LTPO TFT technology. Due to sudden demand from iPhone 14 series orders, Samsung Display has increased the target of OLED panel shipments from 130 million units previously to 149 million units for Apple.

Previously, Samsung was expected to produce about 80 million panels for 4 iPhone models. Meanwhile, another supplier, LG Display, will be responsible for supplying a small amount of screens for the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro Max. Many experts predict that 60% of the supply of OLED panels for iPhone 14 comes from Samsung Display.

In 2020, Samsung had many difficulties when it first applied its OLED LTPO technology to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. However, according to The Elec, just a few years later, the Korean company became the biggest beneficiary because it mastered how to use this panel.

Apple’s newly launched smartphone line will be officially on sale on September 16. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities, Apple estimates that from pre-orders, up to 85% of users will choose iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max. Meanwhile, only 5% choose to buy the large screen Plus version.
